Roman6161
I just applied for this. Does this mean that we can practice without getting a Supervising Physician Collaborative Plan? Not sure what this actually means...... Dear Licensee, As you may know, House Bill 313, an act providing for independent Practice of Physician Assistants, passed during the 2023 Legislative Session. With implementation now complete, physician assistants who meet certain qualifications may apply for independent practice status. The Board of Medical Examiners completed rulemaking to implement the legislation, aligning its administrative rules with the new statutory language. Rules containing definitions, unprofessional conduct, chart requirements, and supervision agreement structure were amended under MAR 24-156-94. In addition, MAR 24-156-97 removed the requirement that physician assistants complete an online course on supervision relationships. Collaborative practice requirements and qualifications for independent practice are addressed under 37-20-203 MCA. A physician assistant with over 8,000 hours of postgraduate clinical experience, as defined in ARM 24.156.403 (j), is eligible for independent practice. Physician assistants who wish to apply for independent practice status may now do so by logging in to their license records and providing the required information. There is no fee associated with this application, and if physician assistants qualify, independent practice status will display on their license certificates. Step-by-step instructions are attached for those who wish to apply for the endorsement. No action is required for physician assistants not seeking independent practice at this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at (406) 444-6880. Thank you, Montana Board of Medical Examiners
