kang1208
Hi all, I am currently holding a bachelor's degree for PA, been working for 7 years now. I am at this stage debating whether getting a MPH degree vs DMSc (ATSU and RMU so far seems to be the only option that accepts applicants with BS) would be a better option for career advancement. Would love to hear any inputs from anyone who has done either one. Thank you!
Moderator ventana Posted May 22, 2020 Moderator Share Posted May 22, 2020 I have and MBA and get little value from it I will be getting a DMSc I think that is the one that long term is going to level the playing field and get us independent
mooredc
Butler does not require a bachelors degree for the DMS. I am in my first courses there and really enjoy it.
DizzyJ
What type of advancement are you looking for? Admin? I did a DHSc program a few years ago and had no luck getting into hospital admin with years of prior admin/leadership experience. Nobody knew what the degree was and I don't think they cared either. One interview they specifically said, "but you don't have an MBA"...So, I'm going to pick up a cheap MBA and see what happens with that. I'm glad I did the DHSc, and got a lot out of it, but it currently doesn't get me anything different compared to the other PAs in my group. kang1208
I'm looking into management positions like administration, either with a hospital or other healthcare industries or pharmaceutical industries.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted May 27, 2020 Moderator Share Posted May 27, 2020 I attended the DHSc at Nova with DizzyJ. They have a BS to DHSc option if that sways you at all. I loved the program and got a lot out of it. https://healthsciences.nova.edu/healthsciences/mhs_dhs/index.html
iconic
Sometimes I feel like going back to get an RN and then NP would ensure one’s career prospects in the future, especially when NPs secure independence in every state and we are still sitting on quasi-independence in North Dakota and the same name. Wild idea
