Corpsman2PA
I'm sure many with a 20% or greater disability rating aren't impaired when it comes to "finding and/or holding a job using the occupational skills he or she has already developed." Would having a job(and having no trouble holding one) really disqualify someone from this benefit? I thought the same thing. I know a Marine friend of mine that's 70% (a little high if you ask me) and holds a job just fine...I also have another buddy with no left leg or hand that is obviously 100% disabled that would truly benefit from something like this. The answer to the question is that it does not disqualify you. Since asking that question, I've been approved for chp 31, started PA school, and it's paid for. :) I didn't even know about this benefit until reading this thread so I have to say thanks to the OP and CAdamsPAC. CAdamsPAC
No thanks needed .We are "A Band of Brothers & Sisters" who have earned these benefits with the injuries we suffered serving this country. I regret that the VA and the military people at the Separation and Transfer Points aren't spreading the word !

Doc Savage
I read somewhere on the Voc Rehab site that a potential employer may get half my salary paid for up to 6 months for training? Does this apply to the PA profession? This would be a huge incentive for an employer to take on a new graduate like myself. Does anyone know how that works? That's correct your employer may receive up to 50% reimbursement of your first years salary from the VA.

jsfelder0417
Best of luck SLDR73, so far my experiences with the VA have been positive. I haven't gotten my rating back yet, so I don't know if I qualify for VRAP. Only time will tell.

SLDR73
Getting my rating in 2008 went good, worried about getting the voc rehab in time for school in September. Best of luck with your rating, I know you will get it.

Best of luck with your rating, I know you will get it. It's definitely doable. My experience with the voc rehab process was excellent. The folks that I've encountered in it genuinely want to help vets reach their educational and work goals. I had my eval in February, got all my paperwork done, had my file transferred to another VA office(that covers my PA school's area), and was set up to start class in May.
