Boatswain2PA
Anyone bill for doing US in the ED? Fast exams, limited abdominal exams, pelvic, endovag, vascular, ocular....
FfIghter23
Yes. Must be credentialed by hospital, must be no restrictions to ultrasound by state regulations, must save documented imaging into chart, etc. It's can get complicated. There is no CPT code for FAST exam (for example). Much of what ultrasound does is increase the complexity of the decision making so upcoding takes place that way. Read up here: http://www.acep.org/workarea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=33280 I believe page 116 talks about PAs and ultrasound billing.

winterallsummer
Not sure about the specifics but in our EMR when I was working in ED I would chart when using for I and D and was told this was billed at higher level although I have no hard facts for you. FiNorman
the cpt code is 76942-26 for the professional component, if it is done in a clinic the reimbursement will be much higher as the practice can charge for the technical and professional component. it is about $
