Garry Li
I recently came across the idea of being a PA instead of a MD and I searched online the benefit of being a PA. It seems really great. My finally question is that is PA program easier to get into than MD?
cop to pa
Great question. It's actually been asked and discussed on this forum a few times. Some with statistics. Take a look for your answers, and welcome.
pahopeful_1
It is roughly the same percentage wise. For instance, Yale had an acceptance rate of 3.2% for the PA program vs 2.3% for MD program. PCOM had a 2% acceptance rate for PA and Emory had ~4% for PA vs 2.6% for MD. If you notice all of these are less than 5% and these are really good schools. These are just some stats for you. Therefore, if you have a mediocre GPA, it will hard to get in PA school as well unless your rest of your application is amazing (like 3 years of direct patient care experience, tons of volunteer and shadowing hrs, leadership positions, etc). Good Luck!
Administrator rev ronin Posted January 19, 2016 Administrator Share Posted January 19, 2016 It is infinitely easier to get into medical school, because there are a host of worldwide options that simply are not available to PAs--Caribbean, Cuba, etc. If you're asking if it's easier to get into U.S. med school than PA school, the answer is still probably yes. MyNameWasUsed
I think a US MD school is harder. The MCAT itself is a beast of its own.
ONE40pt6
I think they're about the same. 1. Meet pre-reqs 2. Apply 3. Interview 4. Matriculate
Moderator EMEDPA Posted January 21, 2016 Moderator Share Posted January 21, 2016 they are looking for different kinds of applicants. most premeds don't have the HCE needed to get into quality pa programs and most prepas dont have the research and coursework to get into medschool. PAGuy55
MD (due to MCAT) harder than PA which is harder than DO. I feel like almost any PA applicant can get into a DO program.
