brittj
I'm currently a PA working in EP (electrophysiology). I am in the process of obtaining privileges for elective DCCV (direct current cardioversion) and was wondering if any of my fellow PA's had similar privileges. These would be scheduled elective procedures (typically for atrial arrhythmias), and would be completed under conscious sedation by anesthesia. I am hoping to touch base with someone about how they went about obtaining privileges, and their hospital's protocal for midlevels and cardioversion. Thank you very much. UGoLong
I have never heard of a PA having hospital privileges to electively cardiovert.
rpackelly
There is always a first time. There are some PAs at Duke doing angiography from start to finish. I could look back get the reference if anyone needs it. It is a procedure. The decision of whether and when to do it is the true complexity of the thing, not actually doing it. coloradopa
I have never heard of a PA having hospital privileges to electively cardiovert. We do it all the time in the ICU. In stable patients we cardiovert with conscious sedation also done by PAs.
UGoLong
The issue here is the word "elective." To me, that implies an outpatient procedure done on a patient with afib/flutter. Emergent (or nearly so) procedures have been done for years by paramedics, as well as PAs.
