dream2pa
Hi there , I have applied for the current cycle and to boost my GPA i have enrolled into a Paramedic program. However i am confused whether i should take grad level courses or continue with the medic since it will give me a lot of skills and experience . any advice ???????????? crossbone2007
Why not both? each has different goal. If you want to raise your GPA take the grad course, at the same time you need health care experience.

mbalaban
I would think it depends on how much of a "boost" your GPA needs. And how much experience you have.

Moderator EMEDPA Posted August 13, 2013 Moderator Share Posted August 13, 2013 also depends which programs you are interested in. some value experience > gpa, others the reverse.
dream2pa
I was doing paramedic since it was cheaper and had 14 hours of classes / semester . The grad courses were just random bio/biochem major classes
mbalaban
With 3k hours I would say you should be around a 3.3 or higher GPA. If you are close, I guess it depends on your GRE. And as said, depends on the programs you are looking at. If it's that low, then continue working. From my understanding, a post bacc program is viewed favorably by the academic type schools. To me, if you want to do what you can to be a better PA, I'd goto paramedic school at a community college. It'll still give you courses to help boost your GPA and also give you a better base as you goto PA school. Plus, you may find that being a PA isn't what you want since being a medic on an ambulance is kinda like being a "mini" PA.
dream2pa
unfortunately my gpa is lower than 3.3 but thanks for the advice i guess ill stick to paramedic since i'll boost my gpa and give me more experience as well.

mbalaban
If nothing else, it can be a career too. After 15 years as a medic, I can say it's put food on my table and a roof over my head for a long time now. lol
